  • Essay / Analysis of my first day in the YOTO organization

During my shift, I was able to organize each donation in its rightful place and my work did not go unnoticed (managers share their appreciation). I also had the chance to meet some high school students who are asking for help. I find it astonishing that children like them have to support themselves; sometimes they have to stop being children and become adults to survive. I felt distressed knowing that homeless youth were at higher risk of not completing their education. One day when I was volunteering, a group of six students came to the organization to get help for the first time. When Miss Daphne told one of the girls that she could get a pillow for herself, she smiled brightly and said that she was going to use a pillow to sleep in after all, since she was using a little teddy bear as a pillow. The YOTO organization also provides students with clothing; Right now they are giving away sweaters and jackets to students who really need them. I was also able to learn that there are stores that donate food to YOTO. When the organization runs out of a type of food, a YOTO representative calls the store to ask for the product they are offering.
